Tunnel design and construction is an exacting science and subject to the most critical of all scrutiny due to the very nature of the finished product.
One crucial aspect of tunnel design is waterproofing the structure, with flexible geomembrane lining the most structurally logical answer to seepage issues.
Fabtech is an experienced tunnel and aqueduct liner with the two most recent and notable projects being:
Adelaide-Crafers Highway Tunnel.
Fabtech designed and installed a 1.0mm PVC liner in 1999 to address expected leakage rates in the new Adelaide-Crafers Highway Tunnel. Crucial to the lining of the tunnel was Fabtech’s ability to interface with the ongoing construction of the tunnel and the requirements of the Head Contractor. The project was successfully completed on time and since commencing operation in 2000 the Adelaide-Crafers Highway Tunnel liner is performing to its originally envisaged scope.
Annandale Aqueducts, Sydney, NSW
The Annandale Aqueducts were designed and constructed in the early 1900’s and form part of Sydney ’s heritage as an efficient effluent disposal system. Fabtech’s role in the rehabilitation of the network of aqueducting was to design a 5.0mm rigid HDPE liner and physically install the liner within the narrow confines of the aqueducts. This installation was successfully undertaken using specialized tools and methods which enabled working safely and efficiently in a confined space.
